The Culinary History of Disneyland and Walt Disney

In a Zoom program Marcy Carriker Smothers explores Walt Disney’s “Kingdom of Good Eating” at Disneyland. While mid-century fare in America may have been humdrum, Walt’s world of food was filled with fantasy and color; he was committed to making the dining experience at Disneyland entertaining—just like the rides. He was among the first in the world to have a themed restaurant and we take a look at his unexpected role of restaurateur. Marcy will also probe into what Walt ate at home

Marcy Carriker Smothers sat behind a microphone for the first time in 2004 on Sonoma County’s KSRO. By 2006 she was a frequent guest host on KGO. In 2007 she created The Food Guy and Marcy show with co-host Guy Fieri. After two years At the Table with Clark Wolf, she became a full-time author. Marcy has published two books, Snacks: Adventures in Food, Aisle by Aisle (HarperCollins, 2013) and Eat Like Walt: The Wonderful World of Disney Food (Disney Editions, 2017). Presently Marcy is writing Walt’s Disneyland: A Walk in The Park with Walt Disney (May, 2021), Dreaming Tree: The Birthplace of Walt Disney’s Imagination (September, 2021) and Walt Disney World: Fifty Recipes from Fifty Years (October, 2021 with Pam Brandon).
