In a Zoom program from England, Marc Meltonville tells us why it’s lovely to have a good chocolate shop in your town, or in the case of a monarch, one built into your house! The rebuild of Hampton Court in the 1690s included a King’s Chocolate kitchen. This space became lost, as the uses of many of the different rooms of the Palace became clouded in history. Over the last few years, research at Historic Royal Palaces has uncovered the true position of this fascinating room and given us insight into the making of Royal chocolate. Marc will share techniques, and a recipe will be sent out in advance so you can try recreating it at home.

Marc Meltonville has worked on displays of historic cookery and the reconstruction of kitchens at many of the six Royal Palaces and countless Museums and stately homes. Though he started by studying ceramics history ceramic history, Marc trained in food history under noted historian Peter Brears. Marc lectures on food history all across the UK and North America, and has been a host and guest on shows that have aired worldwide. He is currently co-hosting “The Time Traveler’s Guide,” an online series that takes a whimsical look at history.
