Gastronomy is the Future of Mexican Cuisine in America” with Bill Esparza, also known as Street Gourmet La!

Los Angeles has been the center of Mexican cuisine in the United States since the founding of Los Angeles now the second largest Mexican city in the world. Bill Esparza gives us a portrait of Mexican cuisine in Los Angeles at the beginning of a Modern Mexican-American revolution in which he considers the terroir of Boyle Heights, Huntington Park and Pacoima. He shares stories of the people from L.A.’s four styles of Mexican cookery: regional fondas, street food, pocho cuisine and Alta California cuisine, discussing their recipes and guiding us on where to shop and eat.

About the speaker:
Bill Esparza is a James Beard award winning writer and a leading authority on Latin American cuisines in America. He is a frequent guest on food television shows, and leads food tours for tops chefs and corporations in Los Angeles and abroad. Bill has written for Los Angeles Magazine, LA Times, Roads and Kingdoms, GQ Mexico and currently covers the Latin American beat in L.A. on Eater LA.

A reception with themed refreshments will follow the talk at approximately 11:30am.
